Aircraft model

CESSNA 182G

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The 1964 Skylane, one of the highest-production years of the type. It is the standard four-seat, 230 hp, high-wing tourer: about 143 knots, a real four-adult load, and the ability to use runways that would worry a low-wing retractable. It is the aeroplane people buy when a 172 is not enough and a six-seater is more than they need.

Ownership is well understood and unsurprising. Thirteen gallons an hour, an O-470 that runs 1,500 hours between overhauls and costs a good deal when it gets there, and an airframe that any shop can annual. The things that separate a good example from a bad one are engine time, panel, corrosion history and whether a previous owner has bent the firewall with a nose-first arrival. All four are worth paying an independent inspector to assess. Resale is dependable because demand for 182s has not softened in decades.
