Aircraft model

CESSNA 182N

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The 1970-71 Skylane, and the year the gross weight went to 2,950 lb. That gives it about 1,250 lb of useful load, the best of any 182 up to that point, and enough to put four adults, full fuel and baggage aboard with margin. It is one of the more sought-after of the older Skylanes for exactly that reason.

The extra gross weight costs a little in climb and service ceiling but nothing in handling. Everything else about ownership is the standard 182 picture: 13 gallons an hour, an expensive six-cylinder overhaul, and an airframe that is cheap and easy to maintain otherwise. Check the firewall and nose gear for repairs from nose-first landings, the fuel bladders for leaks, and the wing spar carry-through and rear window surround for corrosion. Avionics on an unmodified example will need replacement. Resale is reliable; good 182s do not sit on the market.
