Aircraft model

ERCOUPE 415-D

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The 415-D is the heavier Ercoupe, with the gross weight raised to 1,400 lb and a correspondingly better useful load than the 415-C. Everything else is the same twin-tailed, all-metal, low-wing two-seater with the interconnected control system that makes it spin-resistant.

The extra 140 lb of gross weight is genuinely useful — 600 lb carries two adults, full fuel and bags, which the 415-C does not. The catch is regulatory: at 1,400 lb it exceeds the 1,320 lb light sport limit, so unlike a 415-C it cannot be flown on a sport pilot certificate. That single fact makes it noticeably less valuable than the lighter model despite being the better aeroplane, and it is the first thing a buyer should understand. Corrosion in the wings and centre section is the inspection priority.
