About TailFax

US-registered aircraft and aircraft models, from public records.

What it is

TailFax puts the public FAA and NTSB records about US-registered aircraft in one place, with every figure's denominator and with what the records cannot say. Three things can be done here: look up one aircraft by its tail number (TailFax report), find aircraft models that fit what you need (Find a model), and put up to three models side by side (Compare models).

A TailFax is a paid PDF report about one aircraft: its model, its registration, the airworthiness directives that apply to it, the NTSB records filed under its tail number and attributed to it, and its recorded documents and ownership changes. It is a summary of public records, not an inspection.

Who it is for

People looking at buying a used aircraft who want to know, before an inspection, what the public record says about it and about its type; and anyone comparing aircraft models on their fleet, record and cost of ownership.

How the data is gathered and what each figure means is set out in Data sources & methodology.
