AERO COMMANDER 200D

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The Meyers 200D, sold briefly by Aero Commander after it bought the design, is one of the fastest and best-built four-seat singles ever certified: 190 knots on 285 hp from a steel tube fuselage with flush-riveted aluminium skin, built to standards closer to a fighter than a light aeroplane.

It has a reputation among the people who know it as an exceptional aeroplane and among everyone else as an obscurity, because roughly 130 were built before production ended. That is the ownership problem in one sentence: there is no parts supply beyond specialists and the type club, and an airframe-specific component can ground an aircraft indefinitely. The Continental IO-520 is well supported. For a buyer with a connection to the small community that maintains these, it is remarkable value for the speed.

These record scores treat AERO COMMANDER 200D as one design with the same aircraft registered under other names: it includes 4 aircraft registered under MEYERS INDUSTRIES INC; includes the record of aircraft once registered under MEYERS/DIVER. Prices are not combined.

  1. Accident record: class median 32.28 · 202 models in class.
  2. Severity: class median 12.5.
  3. Access: class median 775.
  4. Support: class median 147.5.
  5. Liquidity: class median 19.9.
  6. Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
