Aircraft model

AERONCA 11CC

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The 11CC Super Chief is the most developed of Aeronca's side-by-side two-seaters, with a 90 hp Continental and a better-finished interior than the earlier Chiefs. It is the last of the line before Aeronca left the aircraft business in 1951.

The extra power over an 11AC makes it a genuinely usable two-seater rather than a marginal one, and the side-by-side cabin is what distinguishes the Chief from the tandem Champ. Production was brief so the fleet is small, though much is shared with the more numerous 11AC. Fabric is the dominant lifetime cost and its age is the first question. Light sport eligibility depends on the individual aircraft's certificated gross weight, which at 1,350 lb is above the 1,320 lb limit — worth checking, because it changes who can fly it.

  6. Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
