Aircraft model
AIR TRACTOR INC AT-602
Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.
The AT-602 sits between the 502 and the big 802 in Air Tractor's agricultural line: 1,050 shp, a 630-gallon hopper and a 12,500 lb maximum weight. It is bought by operators covering large acreages who want more capacity per trip than a 502 provides without moving to the much larger and more expensive 802.
Everything about buying one is industrial. The questions are engine time since hot section and overhaul, airframe hours and cycles, hopper and spray system condition, and corrosion from chemical exposure, which is the thing that finishes these airframes. The working profile of heavy, low, high-cycle flying is hard on the structure. It operates in the restricted category. At exactly 12,500 lb maximum takeoff weight it sits right at the threshold above which a type rating would be required, which is worth confirming against the specific aircraft's certification. Agricultural flying requires a commercial certificate, specialist training and an insurance market that wants documented ag experience.

- Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
