AMERICAN GENERAL ACFT CORP AG5B
Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.
The AG5B is the Tiger as revived by American General Aircraft, which restarted production in 1990 after a decade's gap. It is the same 180 hp four-seat Grumman with the sliding canopy, updated with a better interior, improved corrosion protection and modern avionics of the period.
It cruises at 139 knots on a fixed-gear airframe with no constant-speed propeller, which remains about fifteen knots better than an Archer on the same engine and is the type's enduring appeal. American General built only a few hundred before ceasing production in 1993, so the fleet is small and these are the newest Tigers available, which keeps values well above the 1970s aircraft. Bonded honeycomb construction and a free-castering nosewheel are the two things that make it different to own from a conventional trainer.

- Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
