Aircraft model

AVIAT AIRCRAFT INC A-1A

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The Husky A-1A is a detail development of the original, with equipment and interior changes but the same 180 hp engine and 1,800 lb gross weight. It remains a two-seat tandem taildragger with a large wing, big flaps and 1,500 fpm of climb.

The A-1A sits between the original A-1 and the A-1B that raised the gross weight to 2,000 lb, and the gross weight is the thing that matters most in this family — 570 lb of useful load is two adults and limited fuel, which constrains how the aeroplane is actually used. Everything else is the Husky proposition: modern systems, a strong structure, excellent short-field performance, and a small manufacturer that supports the type attentively. Fabric is the eventual major cost.

The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
