Aircraft model

CESSNA 680

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The Citation Sovereign, a midsize jet built 2004-2013 that carries eight or nine passengers 3,000 nautical miles at 458 knots. It has a stand-up cabin, a proper lavatory and a galley, and unusually good runway performance for its size — a moderately swept wing with double-slotted flaps lets it use fields that most midsize jets cannot. That combination of transcontinental range and short-field capability is what it was built for.

It is a two-crew aeroplane in nearly all operations and belongs to a corporate flight department rather than an owner-pilot. Annual fixed costs before a single flight run into the hundreds of thousands, and variable costs are driven by two PW306C engines and roughly 210 gallons an hour. Values for this generation depend heavily on engine programme enrolment and on whether the avionics have been brought up to current airspace requirements, which is a substantial exercise on an early aircraft. The Sovereign+ that followed in 2013 added winglets and a Garmin flight deck and is a meaningfully different proposition.

These record scores treat CESSNA 680 as one design with the same aircraft registered under other names: it includes 40 aircraft registered under TEXTRON AVIATION INC; includes 1 aircraft registered under CESSNA AIRCRAFT CO. Prices are not combined.

  1. Accident record: class median 1.23 · 42 models in class.
  2. Severity: class median 10.
  3. Access: class median 9,850.
  4. Support: class median 197.5.
  5. Liquidity: class median 32.81.
  6. Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
