Aircraft model

CESSNA T310Q

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The turbocharged 310Q, with 285 hp a side and a 27,000-foot ceiling, cruising at 223 knots in the low twenties. It is the fast version of Cessna's light twin and was used heavily by air taxi and small freight operators alongside private owners.

The turbochargers are what you pay for and what costs money. The TSIO-520 runs hot, is less tolerant of careless power handling than a normally aspirated engine, and is hard on exhaust systems and turbochargers — cracked exhaust components are the recurring inspection item and a carbon monoxide risk. The tip-tank fuel system with optional auxiliary and locker tanks remains complicated. Without pressurisation the ceiling means oxygen for everyone aboard, which limits how the altitude capability is actually used.

The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
