COSTRUZIONI AERONAUTICHE TECNA P2008

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The Tecnam P2008 is an Italian high-wing two-seater with a carbon fibre fuselage and metal wings, a combination Tecnam uses across its range to get a smooth, quiet cabin without the cost of an all-composite airframe. It cruises at 115 knots on a Rotax 912 burning about five gallons an hour.

Tecnam is the largest general aviation manufacturer in Europe by unit volume, and that matters more than any single specification: the company is stable, the dealer and parts network is genuinely established, and flight schools buy these in quantity, which supports resale. The P2008 is well finished, comfortable and easy to fly. The reservations are the class's rather than the type's — a 1,320 lb limit that constrains what two adults can carry, and a price at the upper end of the light sport market for what is fundamentally a simple aeroplane.

The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
