DIAMOND AIRCRAFT IND INC DA 62
Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.
The Diamond DA 62 is the current standard for a modern light twin: a composite airframe, two 180 hp Austro diesels burning Jet-A, single-lever FADEC engine control, 192 knots on about fourteen gallons an hour between both engines, and a cabin with five to seven seats and rear doors that make loading genuinely easy.
The fuel economy is the headline and it is real — this is a twin that costs less per hour to fuel than many high-performance singles, and it runs on the fuel that will still be sold in twenty years. The reservations are capital and service. It is expensive to buy, composite repair requires an authorised shop, and the Austro engines are replaced at their time between replacement rather than overhauled, which puts a firm hourly reserve on the aircraft rather than a distant overhaul. Diamond's support network is good but thinner than Textron's.

- Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
