EMBRAER-EMPRESA BRASILEIRA DE EMB-500
Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.
The Phenom 100 is Embraer's entry-level jet: four passengers plus two crew, 390 knots, and a cabin designed with BMW Designworks that feels considerably larger than its competitors because of the shape and the big windows. It is certified single-pilot and was the aeroplane that took a large share of the very light jet market after Eclipse collapsed. The certificate designation EMB-500 covers every version. The original Phenom 100, certified in December 2008, has PW617F-E engines and the Garmin G1000-based Prodigy panel. The 100E of 2014 added multifunction spoilers, which the early aircraft lacked and which make descents and short runways easier, and an updated interior. The 100EV, announced in 2016 and delivered from March 2017, is the real step: PW617F1-E engines with 35 lbf more thrust a side, weight savings that cut the climb to 41,000 feet by eight minutes and shortened hot-and-high take-offs by nearly a thousand feet, and the G3000-based Prodigy Touch flight deck. The 100EX of 2023 updated the cabin and avionics again and added runway-overrun awareness. So a 2010 aircraft has no spoilers and the original panel; a 2017 or later one is a different proposition in the mountains.
It is bought by owner-pilots and small charter operators, and its build quality and support are generally rated well above the other entry-level jets. The limits are range and payload: 1,178 nautical miles is a book figure and with four passengers and reserves the realistic leg is closer to 900 miles. Operating costs are around 95 gallons an hour plus engine programme and maintenance reserves. A type rating is required, and insurers require recurrent simulator training annually.

- Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
