Kolb Mark III / TwinStar
1 model · 144 on the US register today
The Kolb Mark III, the side-by-side two-seat pusher from Kolb Aircraft (now New Kolb Aircraft of London, Kentucky): a welded 4130 steel forward fuselage on an aluminium tail boom, riveted aluminium-tube wings and tail with doped fabric, a tailwheel, and wings and tailplane that fold for trailering in minutes. The original Mark III (also sold as the TwinStar and Mark III Classic) took a 50-80 hp Rotax; the Mark III Xtra (M3X) of 1999, aerodynamically cleaned up by Barnaby Wainfan, takes the 80-100 hp Rotax 912 or Jabiru 2200 and is the current TwinStar Mk III Xtra. About 100 of the original had been built by 2011. The registry's MARK III spellings do not say which generation an aircraft is.
