Rans S-12 Airaile

1 model · 184 on the US register today

The Rans S-12 Airaile, Randy Schlitter's pusher two-seater introduced in March 1990: a side-by-side open-sided pod on tricycle gear under a strut-braced, folding aluminium-tube wing, with a welded 4130 cockpit, an aluminium boom and Dacron covering. The family (S-12, S-12S Super Airaile, the single-seat S-14 and the S-17/S-18 Stinger ultralights) was cut back in Rans's 2006 reorganisation, but customer demand kept the S-12XL in production and it remains available to order, with the 50 hp Rotax 503 standard and the 582 and 912 optional. More than 1,000 S-12s had been delivered by 2011.
