Steen Skybolt
1 model built 1970 · 198 on the US register today
The Steen Skybolt, Lamar Steen's tandem two-seat aerobatic biplane, designed as a high-school engineering project and first flown in October 1970: a welded steel-tube fuselage and wooden wings of 24 ft span, all fabric covered and stressed for normal aerobatics, originally with a 180 hp Lycoming and in the revised Skybolt (D) structure for engines of 180-350 hp; radial-engined (R) and 300 hp versions followed. Over 400 have been completed from plans sold in 29 countries, many with the cockpits enclosed under a single bubble canopy; Steen Aero Lab still supplies plans and components.
