Waco 10 / O series

2 models built 1927–1930 · 66 on the US register today

The Waco 10, the three-seat open-cockpit biplane that was the best-selling American sport and training aeroplane of the late 1920s: at least 1,623 built by the Advance Aircraft Company (renamed Waco) from 1927 to 1933, with two passengers side by side under the upper wing ahead of the pilot and a fabric-covered steel-tube fuselage. The original 90 hp war-surplus Curtiss OX-5 model became the GXE when Waco changed its designation system in 1928 (ATC A-13, October 1927); the later three-letter names encode the engine, the wing (S straight, T tapered) and O for the Model 10 fuselage, so the ASO is the straight-wing Waco 10 with a 220 hp Wright J-5 Whirlwind (ATC A-41, June 1928). The F series of 1930 supplanted it.
