Aircraft model
FUNK B
Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.
The Funk Model B is a small side-by-side two-seater from 1939, notable mainly for the engine the brothers who designed it started with: a converted Ford automobile engine, the Funk E-200. Production aircraft moved to a Lycoming O-145 of 75 hp, and the postwar B-85-C got the 85 hp Continental C-85 that the specced sibling row carries. A bare Model B on the register is one of the earlier, lower-powered aircraft.
Funks are rare, cheap and well liked by the small number of people who own them. The airframe is steel tube and fabric with an all-metal wing on some versions, the aeroplane is honest and slow, and the parts supply is entirely a matter of the owners' association. A pre-war Funk with its original engine is a museum piece; most flying examples have been re-engined at some point, and establishing what is actually in the nose is the first job.

- Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
