Aircraft model

MAULE MXT-7-180A

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The MXT-7-180A is a variant of Maule's short-wing tricycle-gear 180 hp aeroplane, differing from the plain MXT-7-180 in cabin configuration — some are fitted with a fifth seat in the rear area, which Maule offered on several models.

The practical picture is the same: a four- or five-seat fabric aeroplane with short-field performance well beyond a conventional trainer, no tailwheel endorsement required and no high-performance endorsement at 180 hp. It works hard with a full cabin and the short wing gives up some of the Maule's characteristic capability. As with the whole range, the designation suffixes are confusing and the sensible approach is to check what is actually fitted rather than to infer it from the model name.

The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
