Aircraft model

NORTH AMERICAN T-28C

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The T-28C is the carrier-qualified Navy Trojan, with a tailhook, a strengthened structure for arrested landings and a shorter propeller for deck clearance. Otherwise it is a T-28B: 1,425 hp, 3,400 fpm of climb and a 35,500-foot ceiling.

The carrier modifications add a little weight and cost a little performance, and the shorter propeller is slightly less efficient, but the differences are small. What matters to a buyer is the same as for any Trojan: a large radial burning around 60 gallons an hour, a warbird maintenance regime, and often a complex rebuild history across several owners and countries. The tailhook is usually removed or inoperative on civil aircraft. Insurance requires formal type-specific training and the market is a specialist one.

  2. Severity: class median 9.09.
  3. Access: class median 974.
  4. Support: class median 81.
  5. Liquidity: class median 20.47.
  6. Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
