Aircraft model
PIPER AIRCRAFT INC PA46R-350T
Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.
The Piper Matrix is the Mirage without pressurisation: the same PA-46 airframe, the same 350 hp Lycoming and the same cabin-class six-seat interior, but with the pressurisation system deleted. Piper built it for buyers who wanted the cabin and the speed at a lower price and were content to fly lower or use oxygen.
Removing pressurisation saves weight, so the Matrix carries about 150 lb more than a Mirage, and it removes a maintenance system entirely. What it costs is the reason most people buy a PA-46 in the first place: above 12,500 feet everyone aboard needs supplemental oxygen, which with six people on a long flight is a genuine chore and limits how the aeroplane is actually used. It is otherwise identical to fly, with the same slippery handling and the same requirement for real energy management on descent.

- Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
