Aircraft model
PIPER PA-18-A150RESTD
Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.
The PA-18A is the agricultural Super Cub: a 150 hp Super Cub certified in the restricted category with provision for a chemical hopper and spray gear. Piper sold them to crop dusters and to operators who wanted the strongest available Super Cub, and a great many have since had the agricultural equipment removed and been returned to normal-category operation.
That conversion history is the thing to investigate. An aircraft that has spent years spraying chemicals at low level has both corrosion exposure and a very high number of takeoff and landing cycles, and the paperwork returning it to standard category needs to be complete and correct. Beyond that it is a Super Cub and all the usual points apply: fabric is the recurring cost, the aeroplane carries two people and little else, it cruises at only 100 knots, and it is a taildragger with a big wing that demands currency and wind awareness. Prices track the general Super Cub market, which is strong and has been for twenty years.

- Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
