RAYTHEON AIRCRAFT COMPANY 58

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The Baron 58 as built under the Raytheon name, with the 300 hp Continental IO-550-C and the conventional panel layout that both arrived in 1984. It is the stretched Baron with club seating and double doors on the right rear, cruising at 200 knots with 1,480 nautical miles of range. Within the Raytheon years the one change a buyer should know is the panel: through 2004 the aircraft have conventional instruments, and from 2005 the same airframe was built with the Garmin G1000 and sold as the G58, still registered as a 58 — so a 2003 and a 2006 Baron are the same aeroplane with entirely different cockpits.

This has been the default owner-flown piston twin for business travel for fifty years, and a Raytheon-era aircraft is new enough to have usable avionics and low-ish airframe hours while costing a fraction of a current Textron-built one. The costs are unchanged: about 32 gallons an hour, two engine overhauls, two propellers, and a light-twin annual with deice equipment. Insurers require a multi-engine rating, time in type and usually annual recurrent training for an owner-pilot.

These record scores treat RAYTHEON AIRCRAFT COMPANY 58 as one design with the same aircraft registered under other names: it includes 726 aircraft registered under BEECH. Prices are not combined.

  1. Accident record: class median 28.74 · 56 models in class.
  2. Severity: class median 33.33.
  3. Access: class median 2,812.25.
  4. Support: class median 57.
  5. Liquidity: class median 21.91.
  6. Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
