RAYTHEON AIRCRAFT COMPANY HAWKER 800
Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.
The Hawker 800 is the 1984 development of the BAe 125-800 and the aeroplane that established the type as the mid-size business jet with the best cabin in its class. Two Honeywell TFE731 turbofans, a 41,000 ft ceiling, and a fuselage cross-section that lets people of normal height walk about and sit comfortably for four hours, which is the whole argument for the aircraft.
Hawkers are bought for the cabin and owned with the engines in mind. The TFE731 is well understood and well supported, but its overhaul and mid-life inspection costs set the hourly rate and an engine programme changes the economics completely. The airframe is British-built, heavy and strong, with a maintenance programme that rewards continuity of shop. Values for the 800 have fallen a long way from new, which makes them attainable and makes a thorough pre-purchase inspection the most important money spent on the whole transaction.

- Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
