ROCKWELL INTERNATIONAL 114
Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.
The Commander 114 is a four-seat retractable with a notably wide cabin, a big door on each side and a reputation as the most comfortable aeroplane in its class. Rockwell built it to compete with the Bonanza and the Mooney, and it beats both on cabin room by a clear margin.
It does not beat them on speed. At 145 knots on 260 hp it is slower than a Mooney 201 on 200, because the airframe is roomy rather than slippery, and that combination of high fuel burn and modest speed is the type's main criticism. Production was short and the type has passed through several corporate owners since, so parts support depends on specialists and the owners' association rather than a factory. For a buyer who values cabin comfort over efficiency it is excellent value, because the market prices it on speed.

- Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
