Aircraft model

STINSON 10

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The Stinson Model 10 Voyager of 1940: a three-seat high-wing cabin monoplane with an 80 hp Continental A-80, wider seats than the Model 105 it replaced and a better standard of interior and finish. 260 were built before the Model 10A took over in 1941.

A Voyager is a comfortable little aeroplane by 1940 standards and a slow one by any. What makes it interesting to own is that it is a Stinson: the build quality is a step above the Cubs and Champs it competed with, the cabin is genuinely a cabin, and the type has a devoted following. What makes it awkward is that the parts trade is much thinner than for the Piper and Aeronca equivalents, and the pre-war airframes are wood-and-fabric with the inspection burden that implies.

  2. Severity: class median 12.5.
  3. Access: class median 775.
  4. Support: class median 147.5.
  5. Liquidity: class median 19.9.
  6. Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
