Aircraft model

STINSON 10A

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The Stinson 10A Voyager is a prewar three-seat high-wing taildragger, the immediate ancestor of the postwar 108 series. It has a fabric-covered steel tube fuselage, a strut-braced wing and a small Continental engine, and it seats two in front with a third across the back.

It is a modest aeroplane by any measure — 90 knots on 80 hp — and it is bought for what it is rather than what it does. The Continental A-80 is a small prewar engine with a thin parts base, and many 10As have been re-engined with more available powerplants. Fabric over steel tube means recovering is the dominant lifetime cost. The prewar Stinson designations are numerous and confusing, so confirm exactly what the aircraft is against its paperwork rather than the registry string.

These record scores treat STINSON 10A as one design with the same aircraft registered under other names: it includes 3 aircraft registered under VOLAIRCRAFT; includes 1 aircraft registered under ALL AMERICAN. Prices are not combined.

  1. Accident record: class median 32.28 · 202 models in class.
  2. Severity: class median 12.5.
  3. Access: class median 775.
  4. Support: class median 147.5.
  5. Liquidity: class median 19.9.
  6. Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories.
