American Legend Aircraft AL11 Cub Special
Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.
The AL11 Cub Special is American Legend's PA-11 lookalike: the Legend Cub airframe with the cowled 100 hp Continental O-200 and no bare cylinders, a tandem two-seater built at 1,320 lb for the light-sport category (1,600 lb as a kit), with 97 mph cruise, a 38 mph stall and 700 fpm.
It is the most conventional of the Legend Cubs and the one to compare directly with a Piper PA-11 or a rebuilt J-3 with an O-200: new tubing, a wider cabin, doors on both sides and a 2,000-hour engine against a seventy-year-old airframe at a similar price. The useful load at 1,320 lb is 486 lb, so two large people and 20 gallons will be at or over gross, which is the standing compromise of every light-sport Cub. Factory S-LSA examples are consistent and the factory is still building; a kit-built AL11 is an amateur-built aircraft whose quality depends on its builder. Expect Cub maintenance - fabric, bungee or extended gear, tailwheel wear - and a sport-pilot-friendly, slow aeroplane that is not a cross-country machine.

- Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories. When accident record and severity cannot be scored because the model has too few records, the other three give a partial score out of 30, labelled as such; it is never set against a full score.
