Murphy Aircraft Rebel
These figures describe a typical build. Each aircraft of this design was built by its owner, and the one you are looking at may differ.
The Murphy Rebel is a Canadian all-metal high-wing kit of 1990 from Murphy Aircraft of Chilliwack, a two-plus-one-seat STOL taildragger with a 30 ft wing, 950 lb empty and 1,650 lb gross, quoted at 120 mph cruise and 733 miles on a 160 hp Lycoming O-320; more than 600 had been built by 2011 and the Elite is its strengthened development.
The Rebel is a bush-plane kit for someone who wants metal rather than fabric, floats as much as wheels and a cabin that will take two adults and a child or a large load of camping gear; it is not fast and it is not light on the controls. Builders have fitted everything from an O-235 to a Subaru and a Rotax 912, so the empty weight and performance of an individual aircraft are its own and the published figures describe one O-320 configuration; the pulled-rivet aluminium is easy to inspect, and float fittings and corrosion on seaplane examples deserve attention. No stall or climb figures were found in this research. The owner may maintain it and the condition inspection needs an A&P or the repairman certificate; Murphy remains in business for parts.

- Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories. When accident record and severity cannot be scored because the model has too few records, the other three give a partial score out of 30, labelled as such; it is never set against a full score.
