CubCrafters Carbon Cub FX-3

These figures describe a typical build. Each aircraft of this design was built by its owner, and the one you are looking at may differ.

The Carbon Cub FX-3 is the heavier factory-assisted Carbon Cub, built by its owner at CubCrafters' Yakima factory in about two weeks and certified experimental amateur-built at 2,000 lb gross, with the fuel-injected 186 hp Titan CC363i and a constant-speed Hartzell Trailblazer; CubCrafters quotes 135 mph cruise, 2,400 fpm and 977 lb of useful load.

Treat the identity as the first thing to check: this row is keyed to the registry's CCX-2300 designation, which does not match the 2,000 lb gross weight CubCrafters publishes for the FX-3, so confirm from the airworthiness certificate and weight-and-balance what the aircraft is actually approved to. Beyond that the ownership picture is the EX-3's: a 2,000 lb Cub that will carry two adults, 44 gallons and baggage out of a few hundred feet, with the maintenance of a fuel-injected engine and a constant-speed propeller rather than a carburetted fixed-pitch one. The amateur-built certificate makes the owner-builder the manufacturer of record and keeps sport-pilot operation off the table at this weight. Build quality is more uniform than for most homebuilts because the factory supervised the build, which is also why asking prices stay near factory levels.

  6. Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories. When accident record and severity cannot be scored because the model has too few records, the other three give a partial score out of 30, labelled as such; it is never set against a full score.
