Jabiru Aircraft J250-SP

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The Jabiru J250 is the J230's sister with the four-door J400 fuselage: a two-seat composite high-wing light-sport aircraft with an enormous baggage area, 840 lb empty and 1,320 lb gross on the 120 hp Jabiru 3300, quoted at 120 knots cruise, a 45-knot stall, 1,000 fpm and 800 nm.

The J250 trades a little of the J230's speed for rear doors and the easiest cabin loading in the light-sport class, and otherwise it is the same ownership proposition, which turns on the Jabiru 3300: a well-cooled, well-documented engine with the factory's cooling and through-bolt updates is a pleasant 6-gallon-an-hour six, and a neglected one is a liability, so engine records come before airframe hours. The 480 lb useful load leaves little once two adults are aboard. As an S-LSA it is maintained to Jabiru's manual by an A&P or LSA repairman; kit-built examples are amateur-built or E-LSA. US support is through Jabiru's distributor, with parts from Australia.

  3. Access: class median 1,000.
  4. Support: class median 77.5.
  5. Liquidity: class median 20.
  6. Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories. When accident record and severity cannot be scored because the model has too few records, the other three give a partial score out of 30, labelled as such; it is never set against a full score.
