Kitfox Light Sport

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The Kitfox Light Sport is the factory-built S-LSA version of the Kitfox Series 7 Super Sport, built by Kitfox Aircraft of Homedale, Idaho at the 1,320 lb light-sport weight with a 100 hp Rotax 912: a 31 ft folding wing, a 43-inch cabin, 123 mph true cruise, a 42 mph flapped stall, 1,000 fpm and 290 ft of take-off roll.

It is the same aeroplane as the Super Sport kit built by the factory, which means consistent workmanship, a manufacturer's maintenance manual and sport-pilot eligibility, and in exchange the 1,320 lb gross weight is a legal limit the kit version does not have: 570 lb of useful load with 27 gallons aboard leaves about 400 lb for people and bags. As an S-LSA it must be maintained to Kitfox's instructions by an A&P or LSA repairman, and modifications need the manufacturer's approval unless it is converted to E-LSA. Tailwheel or tricycle gear were both offered, and most are fitted with large tyres. Kitfox is in production and supports the type well.

  6. Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories. When accident record and severity cannot be scored because the model has too few records, the other three give a partial score out of 30, labelled as such; it is never set against a full score.
