Tecnam P2002 Sierra

Everything here is true of every aircraft of the type, not of any one aircraft.

The Tecnam P2002 Sierra is Tecnam's low-wing light-sport two-seater, an all-metal aeroplane with a sliding canopy and a Rotax 912S, 730 lb empty and 1,318 lb gross, with Jane's figures of 120 knots at 75%, a 38-knot stall, 1,220 fpm and 590 nm; the Mk II is the updated version.

The Sierra is the P92's low-wing sibling and the one for a pilot who wants a canopy, a slightly faster cruise and conventional low-wing handling for the same Rotax running cost; it gives up the high wing's shade and easier cabin access. Most are flight-school or club aeroplanes, so hours and landing-gear history are the first checks, and the 588 lb useful load with full fuel is the standing light-sport compromise. Tecnam's size means parts, manuals and dealer support are good by light-sport standards. As an S-LSA it is maintained to Tecnam's manual by an A&P or LSA repairman and factory bulletins apply.

  1. Accident record: class median 36.69 · 321 models in class.
  2. Severity: class median 13.04.
  3. Access: class median 1,000.
  4. Support: class median 77.5.
  5. Liquidity: class median 20.
  6. Each of the five categories places the model within its peer class, from 0 (the worst of the class) to 10 (the best): a position among comparable models, not a grade. The overall score is the sum of the categories shown that are scored, out of 10 for each (50 when all five are); it is given only when at least 4 of the five are scored, and it can be set against another model's only when both are in the same peer class and scored on the same categories. When accident record and severity cannot be scored because the model has too few records, the other three give a partial score out of 30, labelled as such; it is never set against a full score.
