Cessna 170

3 models built 1948–1956 · 2,084 on the US register today

Cessna's first four-seat aeroplane and the direct ancestor of the 172: a tailwheel high-wing four-seater with a 145 hp six-cylinder Continental O-300, built 1948-1956. The original 170 had fabric-covered wings; the 170A (1949) brought the all-metal wing and single strut; the 170B (1952-56) added the large slotted Fowler-type flaps from the Bird Dog, which transformed its short-field behaviour and is the version most people mean when they say 170.
